One Man, One Island, One Slightly Ambitious Motorsport Dream
Hi, I’m Tom O’Farrell — part-time school technician, small business juggler, and full-time believer that racing isn’t just for lottery winners and trust fund kids.
I live on the Isle of Islay — you know, that windswept Scottish island famous for whisky, sheep, and sideways rain. Not exactly the epicentre of motorsport… unless you count dodging potholes in a Transit van as racing prep (which I do).
But despite being miles from the nearest circuit, running on a budget that wouldn’t cover a set of slicks, and the small detail that I’m not racing just yet, I’ve set myself a goal:
Swap island life for a life on track — and race regularly.
What kind of racing? Ah, that’s a story for another day (or another blog post). Let’s just say there are dreams involving historic racers, GT cars, and maybe a cheeky Touring Car or two.
Tom O’F Cars is me documenting the wild ride of turning “Maybe one day” into “Actually happening”. It’s part blog, part video diary, part sim racing hub — and probably part cautionary tale.
You’ll find:
Brutally honest blog posts about what racing in the UK really costs (because someone has to say it).
Videos tracking my progress — including the inevitable setbacks, dodgy DIY fixes, and celebratory cups of tea.
Sim racing content, because seat time is seat time, even if it’s in my living room.
Behind-the-scenes looks at building a brand, a team, and eventually… getting a car on the grid without selling my soul (or my van).
The occasional musing about island life — because when you live somewhere with more distilleries than traffic lights, things get interesting.
There’s no big-budget Netflix crew here. No race suits stitched with sponsor logos (yet). Just me, a laptop, a steering wheel, and a slightly unhealthy obsession with making this happen — one post, one lap, and one bit of merch at a time.
