From Remote Island to Race Track: Welcome to Tom O’F Cars

Welcome to Tom O’F Cars – Where Island Life Meets Racing Dreams

Hello! I’m Tom O’Farrell — reporting in from the Isle of Islay, that wee remote island off Scotland’s west coast where the sheep outnumber the people and the nearest race track is… well, not exactly nearby.

By day, I’m a part-time school technician (yes, I do know how to fix the printer), and I juggle a couple of small businesses on the side. But let’s be honest — you’re not here to hear about photocopiers and side hustles.

No, this site is about something a bit faster, a bit louder, and a lot more expensive… chasing the motorsport dream.

So, What Is Tom O’F Cars?

Glad you asked!

Tom O’F Cars is basically me trying to turn the unlikely into reality — swapping island roads for race tracks and aiming to race regularly. How regularly? Let’s just say I’m working on it! I’ll drop a full blog or post soon about my racing goals (hint: think classic cars, GT beasts, and maybe rubbing doors in something Touring-shaped).

The catch? I’m not backed by a millionaire uncle or a fancy sponsor. No silver spoon here — more like a spanner and a lot of stubbornness.

What You’ll Find Here (Spoiler: It’s Not Just Moaning About Costs… Mostly)

This isn’t just a “watch me” story. It’s part journal, part guide, part therapy session for anyone else wondering how on earth to afford racing when your budget says ‘go-kart’ but your heart says ‘GT3’.

Here’s what’s in store:

The Real Cost of Racing in the UK

No smoke, no mirrors — just honest breakdowns of what it actually costs to get on track. Brace yourself.

Racing Series & Arrive-and-Drive Options

Because knowing where to start is half the battle (the other half is paying for it).

Sim Racing Shenanigans

I run events with Perfect Acceleration Sim Racing, so expect plenty of virtual racing action while I keep my skills sharp (and my wallet intact).

My Progress, Setbacks & Small Wins

From saving up for a track day to launching my first T-shirt to help fund this madness — you’ll get the highs, the lows, and probably a few swear words.

Videos – Behind the Wheel & Behind the Scenes

Because sometimes words aren’t enough — and you need to see just how badly I can miss an apex.

Why Bother?

Simple. Because motorsport shouldn’t just be for the rich and famous. It feels out of reach for most of us — but I’m here to prove that with enough grit (and maybe a side of stupidity), it’s possible to get on track without selling a kidney.

This is for anyone who’s ever looked at a race car and thought,
“Maybe… one day.”

Well, I’m chasing that one day. And if you’re reading this, you’re along for the ride.

Fancy Supporting the Dream?

The first bit of Tom O’F Cars merch is dropping soon — perfect for those who want to look fast even when they’re just queuing at the Co-Op.

If merch isn’t your thing, no worries — just stick around, read the posts, watch the vids, and maybe, just maybe… I’ll see you on the grid one day.

Thanks for being here. Let’s make this happen.
